Buddhist Archaeological Site - Salihundam


Salihundam is a small and historically renowned village in Gara Mandal of Srikakulam district.

Salivatika (meaning rice emporium) Salyapetika(meaning box of bones or relics) are earlier names of Present Salihundam.

The stupas site was first rediscovered by Gidigu Venkata Ramana murthy in 1919 and again rediscovered by Ponnana Simhachalam in 2013.

This place is dated back to 2nd century BC to 12th century AD. Here statues of  Tara and Marichi were discovered. Buddhism spread to Sumatra and far-eastern countries through River Vamsadhara and Kalingapatnam Port.

It is a must and best place one should visit.
