The town of Bobbili was founded by Pedda Rayudu during 17th century. Sher Muhammad Khan "Nawab of Srikakulam" granted Bobbili as a gift to the maharajah of Venkatgiri for his services. Along with time the town became known as "Pebbuli", "Bebbuli" and finally "Bobbili".
Battle of Bobbili happend in 1757 is one of the significant part in the history of Andhra Pradesh. With the help of French Vizianagaram kings won the war. This battle is evidence of sacrifices, bravery, valour and courage.
The present fort was Started building from late 18th century to early 19th century. Old fort was compleately destroyed during Bobbili War. You can also find Bobbili Guest house at Bobbili Town outskirts.War Stupa (memorial) was built where once stood old fort, and Bobbili War happened.
By taking permission from Bobbili fort office you can take a look into their large collection of weapons, photos, furniture and many more.
